Day 3 Delhi - Agra (by car 210 kms / 04 hrs)

Scrumptious breakfast will be followed by early morning departure for Agra. Agra, a UNESCO world heritage site, is without doubt ‘the site and the place’ associated and linked with India the most, by most international tourists and visitors to the country. To many foreign tourists Agra and the Taj Mahal are to India what the ancient pyramids are to Egypt. But, it is also true that Agra is indeed a town and city which is ancient and finds mention (as ‘Agravana’) in some of the ancient Indian texts (the Mahabharata). In more modern times, the city finds mention as a city founded by Rajput warriors and kings. Recorded history of course, testifies that it was the capital of some of the Lodi kings and later the Mughal Empire for a long period of their reign and many of its incredible monuments including the fort, tombs of various kings, nobles, mosques, etc belong to and were built during the Mughal era.

On arrival at Agra, our representative will take you to pre-reserved hotel, ensuring smooth check in. Agra tour guide will be introduced with you in the hotel’s lobby. After relaxing a bit proceed on for visiting Agra and its famous monuments. The Taj Mahal is itself the delicately and beautifully architected, built, carved, embellished and ornamented marble mausoleum that Emperor Shah Jahan conceived and built in memory of his beloved queen and wife, Mumtaz Mahal, on the banks of the river Yamuna. Other historical monuments and wonders in Agra which would delight any visitor, tourist and student of history include the Agra fort (also a UNESCO world heritage site), Jama Masjid, Chini Ka Rauza, Mariyam’s tomb, Sikandara (the tomb of Emperor Akbar), Mehtab Bagh and many modern temples of Hindu, Sikh and Jain persuasion. Most of the tourists prefer to view four monuments- Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Sikandara and Baby Taj.

After full day Agra sightseeing and exploration of bustling market, return to hotel for overnight stay.

Day 4 Agra- Fatehpur Sikri- National Chambal Sanctuary (80 kms)

Have delicious breakfast in Agra hotel. Spend early morning hours in leisure. Later depart for National Chambal Sanctuary. On the way to Chambal Gharial Sanctuary, have a detour to Fatehpur Sikri to see relatively better preserved grandiose monuments of early era of Mughal kingdom.

Fatehpur Sikri is a famed historical town in Agra district of Uttar Pradesh. It was built by emperor Akbar, at age 28, to serve as his capital city, after his seventh attack on Sikrigarh, a fort and a palace located close by and held by Rajput kings, led to his victory (‘Fateh’ in Persian) there. This well planned, walled city’s entire architecture, structure and construction were conceived, planned and executed under the direct supervision of the young king. The young emperor also chose this site and place in particular for his capital city, as it was in proximity to Sikri village, the place of residence of the Sufi mystic, Sheikh Salim Chishti. The city combines elements of both Hindu and Islamic architecture and is built with red sandstone and is highly ornamented with carvings, embellishments, etc. The walled city has a series of royal palaces, harems, courts, a mosque, private quarters and other utility buildings. The other main parts of this historical walled city are the Diwan-I-Am, the first enclosure of the palace, Diwan-I-Khas, a chamber or hall for private audiences and the pachisi court, a live game (the game of Pachisi) board.

Having seen Fatehpur Sikri, proceed to Chambal Gharial Sanctuary. The Chambal’s importance as a gharial habitat ranks the highest, as is contains the most significant remaining breeding populations of gharials. Its source is the Singar Chouri peak of the Vindhyas in Madhya Pradesh. A sanctuary that boasted close to 1500 gharials only a decade ago, the Chambal River Sanctuary now has a population of around 200 adults. Only 20 of the adults seen during the last census (2007) were adult males. During the 2006 season, 224 young gharials bred at Kukrail Breeding Centre were released at Pinhat.

On arrival at Chambal Gharial Sanctuary, check in at pre-booked jungle resort for overnight stay.

Day 5 Chambal Safari

Having enjoyed delicious breakfast in the resort, get out on a boat safari in Chambal river. The river safari is a unique experience, unlike anything on the Indian wildlife circuit. The National Chambal Sanctuary is home to the gharial, the rare and highly endangered Gangetic Dolphin, Marsh Crocodiles (Muggers), eight species of Turtles, Smooth Coated Otters, Indian Striped Hyenas, Jungle Cats, Golden Jackals, Indian Wolves and foxes amongst others. A birdwatcher's paradise, the sanctuary currently boasts of over 316 species of resident and migratory birds including large nesting colonies of the Indian Skimmer, the Greater Thick-knee, the Small Pratincole and Lapwings.

Nature & Village Walks, Camel & Jeep safaris and Temple Visits to Bateshwar (the site of an ancient cattle fair larger in size than the Pushkar fair) are also organized on a guest’s demand. The Chambal Valley is open from October to April.

Overnight stay is planned in Chambal resort.
